Tulum, Mexico

This morning we got up early to eat at our resorts breakfast buffet and be ready by 7:40 for our trip to Tulum.  Tulum is known for it's ruins.  We got in a van with about 11 people and since I tend to get sick if I can't be by a window, I sat up front between the driver and our tour guide.  At first it was a little awkward, but if you know me at all, you know I can talk to just about anyone and get a long with almost everyone.  I really enjoyed my visit with him and learned about all kinds of interesting facts in Cancun.  He pointed out the jaguar crossing signs along the road, like our deer crossing signs.  They also have crocodile's in their lagoons and wild boars in the jungle that are quit aggressive.  Cancun also has 5 kinds of poisonous snakes.  Our tour guide spoke good english and the more coffee he got in him the better he spoke.  The trip was an hour and a half and talking to him made it go by really fast.  We stopped at a jewelry factory along the way and they showed us how they hand make all their jewelry.  They have the most beautiful pieces and the prices are really good for what you get, I just wish I had somewhere to where the beautiful jewelry.  Mexico is known for it's silver from their silver mines, so the jewelry is good quality.  I was strong and didn't buy any.  Then it was off to Tulum and the first thing we saw was the Papantla Flyers.  It is cool to watch them, but so dangerous because they are up 90 feet in the air with only a small rope around their feet and nothing but hard ground down below.  They play the flute and drum and then drop slowly, head first, while spinning around.  Next, we took a tour to see the Mayan ruins.  They were so neat and it was neat to hear about their beliefs.  We saw iguana's every where and even a lemure and our tour guide said, "Don't touch it, they bite hard."   Afterwards, we road a little train back to meet our guide and we had authentic Mexican food at an outdoor place, with blankets hung as a roof.  We meet a 5 year old boy who spoke good English and we gave him some money.  He was sooo cute!
